One Tonne Table Work Station from Power-Lifts

One of the UK’s leading industrial suppliers of lift-tables, Power-Lifts brings customers a fantastic custom built hydraulic lift table for the servicing of diesel motors. The lift and tilting device is rail mounted so that the diesel motors can be loaded onto and off-loaded from the lift table near the production line and rolled away to a servicing bay for remedial work.

The scissor mechanism under the platform allows the motor to be presented to the mechanic at a suitable working height thereby preventing unnecessary bending. The tilting mechanism allows the motor to be ergonomically presented to the mechanic thereby preventing stretching. The tilting facility of the bespoke scissor-lift also allows for cleaning fluids to be drained off the unit prior to its return to the production line.

“It is always important that we understand the customer’s needs and the proposed application” says Power-Lifts Director. “In this case it is not just the weight of the motors to be handled, but also the nature of the load. This load has a moving centre of gravity that could cause dangerous overturning moments as the hydraulic lift tilts the load whilst presenting it to the operator.”
It should be noted that the undersides of the lifting platform and the tilting table are protected by a sensitive edge, anti-trap bar that prevents further lowering should an obstruction be encountered. The tilting table itself is powered by quality double acting cylinders made in house by the Power-Lifts specialist engineering team.

The Power-Lift unit comes complete with an integral electro-hydraulic power pack specially selected by the manufacturer for long term reliability and low noise emission. This is just one of many units which are custom built by Power-Lifts to reduce Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSIs) and Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) helping to provide an efficient and safe working environment.

Keep in Position with Power-Lifts Ltd

Industrial lift table experts Power-Lifts designed and manufactured a unique, custom built hydraulic lift table for the efficient removal and replacement of 5 tonne motors and gear boxes on the High Speed Trains. This particular hydraulic lift works by being suspended off the tracks which are mounted onto the side walls of a service pit running under the entire length of the train.

The power lift bed itself supports an impressive five tonne capacity turn table, which is fitted onto a rack and pinion side shift. This allows users to manoeuvre the heavy loads in any direction, and accurately re-align the mounting points. In effect, the entire hydraulic lift unit can move forwards, backwards and rotate in addition to simply up and down.

“This is not just a lift table,” says Nigel Roberts of Power-Lifts. “This is an engineered piece of equipment that shows how versatile a well specified and properly designed lift unit can perform. This is what Power-Lifts, as leaders in the field do best.”

The professional power-lift unit comes complete with a ‘hold to run’ pendant control station, retracting cable drum and an integral electro- hydraulic power pack especially selected by the manufacturer to ensure long-term reliability and low noise emission. The hydraulic lift system comes with added operator safety in the form of galvanised steel mesh curtains. The curtains are suspended under all four faces of the lifting unit- this will restrict ingress to the undersides.

This is just one of many units custom built by Power-Lifts after a manual handling assessment that will help to reduce Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) and provide an efficient working environment. Power-Lifts recommends that purchasers always consult the latest edition of BS EN1570 ‘Safety requirements for lifting tables’.

Powerlift’s Hydraulic Lift Tables Benefit Long-Term Health

Lifting platforms, which are also known as scissor lift tables are the perfect ergonomic solution to reducing the risks associated with manual handling jobs. International lift table manufacturer Powerlift has a wide variety of products to help maintain health and safety in the workplace.

Medical research has proven that continuous manual handling of objects gradually increase the risk of long term health issues including repetitive strain disorder, back pain and even bad cases of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs).

Power-Lift’s hydraulic table lifts will provide the manufacturing industry with a number of benefits including the reduction of MSDs; helping to increase efficiency in manual and material handling, improving the flow rate of the production process and generally better working conditions for employees.

The increased demand of Power-lift products including stainless steel lift tables is thanks to latest update of the Ergonomics legislation, which states that ‘where possible, you should provide mechanical assistance’ in the workplace; manual lifting of heavy objects is slowly becoming a thing of the past.

Items such as the scissor lift tables can not only alter the height of the table to suit the worker, but can also vary the angle at which the employee works. The low closed lifts available from Powerlift make working more efficient as well as safer and do not need a pit.

In addition to the variety already available on the website, Power-lift have many hundreds of lift table plans that can be amended to provide a custom built unit to a customer’s exact needs.

Easy to clean lift tables for Food and Pharmaceutical industries

Power-Lifts supply bespoke lifting solutions and specialise in manufacturing electro-hydraulic lifting platforms. The Nottingham company has recently developed a range of custom built lift tables, specifically designed for use within the food and pharmaceutical industries.

The demands placed on equipment used within a food and premium chemical production environment can be unusually high due to the need for absolute cleanliness and hygiene. The use of jet washers is common place and any equipment that is to be cleaned with such a device has to be able to withstand the high pressures and strong cleaning fluids that are used. Power-Lift developed the easy to clean lift table from concept through to manufacture specifically to withstand the daily rigours of being used within such a challenging environment while still providing years of reliable service.

Fabricated from stainless steel or hot dip galvanised steel, or even a cost saving combination of both, a scissors lift table provides a robust, adjustable working platform, reducing the need for unnecessary bending and manual lifting. With back injuries being a major source of sick days within the workplace, the lift table helps to improve working conditions and reduces the amount of production time lost through employee illness.

A further consideration that was taken into account with the design of the table lift was the fact that the lift table’s base frame is raised from the floor. The benefit to this design feature is that there is a reduced chance of food matter or other contaminated material collecting and compacting in difficult to clean places. This helps to keep the working environment and lift table itself as hygienic as possible.

Nigel Roberts, managing director of Power-Lift said, “The variety of applications and industries that make use of the scissor lift tables and pallet lifts is endless. We’re continually developing our extensive range as customers approach us with new problems from all industries and environments: for instance off-shore and nuclear. We design in features to make our corrosion resistant products robust enough to withstand a hostile environment and remain a reliable aid to lifting and handling. We are seeing more firms from all industry sectors relying on scissor lift tables to prevent and reduce MSDs (Musculoskeletal Disorders) where previously, they may have had to use less satisfactory tools or work to smaller production targets.”

PowerLift joins the Navy!

Specialist scissor lift table manufacturer Power-Lift created a valuable resource for a European Navy when it designed and produced a Torpedo Launching test rig.

It’s been bombs away for the Navy since PowerLift were consulted to help find a solution that would assist in testing its torpedoes. PowerLift was approached because of its proven ability to design bespoke, highly engineered equipment. In this case they came to the rescue with a one off unit that was designed specifically to support the torpedo and adjust the launch angle.

The end result is impressive; ingeniously engineered, the piece was created as a torpedo-launching rig based on a scissor lift table that included a hydraulically operated titling platform.

An intricate design allowed the unit not just to provide support to the torpedo, but also to assist the controller to adjust the angle of the trajectory prior to firing. An incredible contribution, the custom-built Torpedo Launcher demonstrates that there is no job too big (or small) for PowerLift to handle.

Nigel Roberts, managing director or Power-Lifts said, “The Torpedo Launcher is just an example of how a scissor lift can be put to use in almost any situation. New applications are constantly being developed to put the standard principles to different uses and as usual, this incarnation of the table scissor lift weaves science, design, architecture and engineering workmanship.”

With its team of designers, engineers, scientists behind the scene, PowerLift have become an invaluable resource to a major sector of industry. Exciting news for the company, the prospects for similar-sized projects in the future is looking promising.

With years of experience in the complex design of structures for conveyor systems and solutions for vehicle loading, pallet handling and disabled access, Power-Lift has cemented its reputation as an essential component of industry an invaluable resource.
